A strong, aggressive and mobile performer, Joel is a good puck handler with a tremendous shot. He has good size and he uses it to great advantage. He had 3 power play goals in 1980-81. Joel was named to OHA’s Second Team All-Star Team for the Windsor Spitfires in 1977-78.

Details

1980-81 was a career year offensively for Joel Quenneville, scoring ten goals and assisting on 24 for 34 points with the Colorado Rockies. Joel and the Rockies would spend the 1981-82 NHL season in Denver before up and moving east to become the New Jersey Devils. Quenneville lasted just a single season in New Jersey.

Originally a second round pick of the Toronto Maple Leafs at the 1978 NHL Amateur Draft, Quenneville came to Colorado in one of the most hated trades for Maple Leafs fans. Joel and Lanny McDonald were shipped to the Rockies on December 29, 1979 for Pat Hickey and Wilf Paiement. He had played just 93 games with the Buds before going west.

Between 1978-79 and 1990-91, Joel Quenneville appeared in 803 regular season and 32 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Colorado Rockies, New Jersey Devils, Hartford Whalers and Washington Capitals.

He is better known for his NHL coaching career, serving behind the bench for over three decades with the Quebec Nordiques, Colorado Avalanche, St. Louis Blues, Chicago Blackhawks and Florida Panthers. Joel won three Stanley Cup championships with the Hawks and was named the Jack Adams Award winner in 1999-00 with the Blues.
