Details

Joel Quenneville, the defenseman with scoring potential, topped out with ten goals in 1980-81 and finished his NHL career with just 54 goals over 803 games. In 32 playoff games, he put zero pucks in the net.

His time with the Maple Leafs was short. Just 32 games into the 1979-80 season, Quenneville and Lanny McDonald were traded to the Colorado Rockies for Pat Hickey and Wilf Paiement. He remained with the Rockies for that franchise’s existence in Denver and moved with the club for one season in New Jersey.

On June 21, 1983, Joel was involved in another trade involving some big names. Him and Steve Tambellini were traded to the Calgary Flames for Mel Bridgman and Phil Russell. However, a few weeks later, Quenneville was traded by Calgary to the Hartford Whalers and never played a game for the Flames.

Between 1978-79 and 1990-91, Joel Quenneville played 803 regular season and 32 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Maple Leafs, Rockies, Devils, Whalers and Washington Capitals. Never a champion as a player, Quenneville went on to coach the Chicago Blackhawks to three Stanley Cup titles.
