Details

Going by the numbers, Joe Daley actually did better than Les Binkley as his backup in 1968-69. Daley appeared in 29 games, posting a 3.23 goals against average with two shutouts. Binkley played 50 games, putting in a 3.29 GAA with no blanks. Each goalie was in net for ten wins.

However, the following year, Joe was mostly back with the Baltimore Clippers in the AHL. Al Smith took over the number one role with the Penguins and the aging Binkley was relegated to the back-up role for 1969-70.

Daley spent time with the Detroit Red Wings and Buffalo Sabres over the next two years. The creation of the World Hockey Association for the 1972-73 season drastically changed his pro hockey career.

Joe played for the Winnipeg Jets through all seven seasons of the WHA’s existence. Daley helped the Jets to three Avco World Trophy championships. He was named a First Team All-Star in 1975-76 and a Second Team All-Star the following season. In 2010, Joe Daley was inducted as an inaugural member in the World Hockey Association Hall of Fame.

Joe Daley continues to operate a sports and framing store in Winnipeg, Manitoba, specializing in hockey memorabilia.
