He joined Boston for the 1952-53 campaign and picked up 23 points on 10 goals and 13 assists.

Details

1954-55 would turn out to be the only full season Toppazzini would play with the Chicago Blackhawks. Appearing in all 70 games, he contributed 27 points on nine goals and 18 assists. In the first game of the season, a 4-2 loss to the Canadiens at the Montreal Forum, Jerry scored a shorthanded goal on Jacques Plante to open the scoring and later had a fight with Bert Olmstead.

His time with the last place Hawks would mercifully come to an end with a May 28, 1955 trade to the Detroit Red Wings. After 40 games with the Wings, Jerry was on the move again, traded back to the Boston Bruins on January 16, 1956.

With the Bruins in 1957-58, Toppazzini led the NHL with eight shorthanded goals. Over his NHL career, 22 of his 163 regular season goals were scored on the penalty kill. In the opening round of the playoffs that year, two of his eight goals over the six game series were shorthanded.

Between 1952-53 and 1963-64, Jerry Toppazzini played 783 regular season and 40 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Boston Bruins, Chicago Blackhawks and Detroit Red Wings. He had a career best 25 goals in 1957-58 and went to the Stanley Cup final twice with the Bruins, losing both times to the Montreal Canadiens.
