The trade that brought Jerry Korab from the Chicago Blackhawks to the Vancouver Canucks occurred on May 14, 1973. Joining Korab was goaltender Gary Smith while Dale Tallon was shipped in the other direction.

Korab’s time with the Canucks would last just 31 games into the 1973-74 season. On December 27, 1973, he was shipped to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for John Gould and Tracy Pratt. It was with Buffalo that Jerry played the bulk of his NHL career.

Desire and determination were definitely traits of Jerry Korab. Undrafted after a junior career with the St. Catharines Blackhawks, Korab signed as a free agent with the Port Huron Flags of the IHL. In his rookie season with the Flags, 1968-69, he finished second in the league with 284 penalty minutes but also contributed 64 points in 71 games. By 1970-71, he was a regular in the NHL with the Blackhawks.

Jerry played 975 regular season and 93 playoff games in the National Hockey League between 1970-71 and 1984-85 with the Blackhawks, Canucks, Sabres and Los Angeles Kings. He twice went to the Stanley Cup final. His Blackhawks lost to the Montreal Canadiens in 1972-73 and his Buffalo Sabres were taken out by the Philadelphia Flyers in 1974-75.
