Details

Jean-Guy Gendron got his NHL start with the New York Rangers in 1955-56, playing 63 regular season and five playoff games after one year of minor league hockey in the AHL with the Providence Reds. Gendron scored five goals during the regular season and two in the post season for the Blue Shirts.

His first NHL goal came in his ninth game and it was an important one. On November 9, 1955 at Madison Square Garden, he scored the only goal in the game for the Rangers. At 10:00 of the third period, he put one past Montreal Canadiens goalie Jacques Plante, assisted by Lou Fontinato and Ron Murphy. The goal erased Montreal’s 1-0 lead and the game ended in a draw.

1959-60 turned out to be a career year when it came to goal scoring for Jean-Guy. He put in 24 over 67 games for the Bruins. Included in those was his second and last hat trick of his career. Both of his three goal games came against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Between 1955-56 and 1971-72, Jean Guy Gendron played 863 regular season and 42 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the New York Rangers, Boston Bruins, Montreal Canadiens and Philadelphia Flyers. He reached the 20 goal plateau in five seasons. Gendron also played 127 games in the WHA with the Quebec Nordiques over two seasons, 1972-73 and 1973-74.
