Details

The back of this Ian Turnbull 1975-76 O-Pee-Chee hockey card focuses mostly on his junior career, so we will too. Turnbull played four years in the OHA Junior A (OHL) from 1969-70 to 1972-73. His first three years were with the Montreal Junior Canadiens and his final season was with the Ottawa 67’s.

He was a Second Team All-Star in 1971-72 with the Junior Canadiens. That team left the league for the QMJHL after a dismal season and Ian moved up the river to Ottawa for his final campaign. He was again a Second Team All-Star on the blue line in 1972-73 and helped the 67’s to a third place finish in the ten team league. His teammate Denis Potvin took First Team honours.

The first round pick by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 1973 NHL Amateur Draft went on to play 628 regular season and 55 Stanley Cup playoff games in the National Hockey League between 1973-74 and 1982-83 with the Maple Leafs, Los Angeles Kings and Pittsburgh Penguins.
