Card Notes

Henri, 158 pounds soaking wet, is perhaps the Game’s number one proof that size isn’t everything. There are to be sure, some small players who outscore Henri, but there are none who are as thrilling and colourful to watch, none who can match his skating skill.

Details

1959-60 would turn out to be a career year for goals for Henri Richard. His 30 would mark the only time he would reach that plateau over his career. He did surpass 20 on nine occasions. The goal total in 59-60 would tie him fifth in the NHL with teammate Bernie Geoffrion, nine behind a two-way tie for first between Bobby Hull and Bronco Horvath.

In the post season, Richard continued his ways with 12 points over eight games as the Habs swept their way to a fifth consecutive Stanley Cup championship. He had eight of those points over the four games in the final series against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

In a game 1 win over the Maple Leafs on April 7, 1960 at the Montreal Forum, the Pocket Rocket was in on all his team’s goals in a 4-2 win. In the first period, he assisted on goals by Dickie Moore, Doug Harvey and Jean Beliveau as the Canadiens jumped to a 3-0 lead. He rounded out the scoring with his first of the playoffs early in the third, scored on Toronto goalie Johnny Bower, assisted by Dickie Moore and Bernie Geoffrion.

Between 1955-56 and 1974-75, Henri Richard played 1,258 regular season and 180 playoff games in the National Hockey League, all with the Montreal Canadiens. The eleven-time Stanley Cup champion was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1979.
