Card Notes
Seldom has a rookie come into the NHL with as great a buildup as Guy received. And, after a slow start, Lafleur adjusted to the pressure and had a tremendous first season. He’s quite versatile and can play right wing as well as center ice. The Canadiens picked Guy as their top amateur selection in 1971.
Details
This card definitely saw into the future. Guy Lafleur would spend the rest of his Hockey Hall of Fame worthy National Hockey League career at right wing and not at center. It worked out well with Lafleur winning the Art Ross Trophy as the NHL’s top scorer in three consecutive seasons, starting in 1975-76.
Instead of Lafleur playing center, the great lines during the Habs dynasty had either Jacques Lemaire or Pete Mahovlich in the middle. Guy and Steve Shutt were always on the wings.
