Details

In eight games against the New York Rangers during the 1978-79 NHL season, Guy Chouinard scored five goals and assisted on nine for 14 points. Chouinard had at least a point in each of the eight games and topped out with a three point game in a 6-5 win over the Blue Shirts at Madison Square Garden on December 31, 1978.

In that match, Chouinard scored his 25th of the season, putting one past New York goalie Wayne Thomas, assisted by Tom Lysiak and Bobby Lalonde. Prior to that, Guy assisted on a pair of Eric Vail goals that started a four goal third period comeback for the win.

That year, Chouinard had a career best 107 points on 50 goals and 57 assists. He finished fourth in goal scoring, 19 behind leader Mike Bossy, and was sixth in the race for the Art Ross Trophy. He did this without a hat trick and putting up no more than four points in a single game. Instead, he was consistent with at least a point in 64 of the 80 games he played.

1980-81 most likely would have been a career year if not for injuries. Chouinard finished with 31 goals and 52 assists for 83 points despite playing just 52 regular season games, a 127 point pace over a full 80 game schedule. He was powered by a six assist game against the New York Islanders, along with a pair of five point games.

Between 1974-75 and 1983-84, Guy Chouinard played 578 regular season and 46 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Atlanta Flames, Calgary Flames and St. Louis Blues. Originally a second round pick by the Flames at the 1974 NHL Amateur Draft, Chouinard was CHL rookie of the year in 1974-75 with the Omaha Knights and a Calder Cup champion in 1975-76 with the Nova Scotia Voyageurs.
