Details

In 1977-78, Guy Charron would attain a career high 38 goals for the Capitals, topping his previous high of 36 the year before. It was one of five years reaching the 20 goal plateau over his NHL career.

Of his 38 goals, two came in just two games in March, 1978. Guy put up the third and fourth of his five NHL career hat tricks within a ten game span. On March 18, 1978, Washington hosted the Cleveland Barons at the Capital Centre in a battle of a pair of pretty bad teams. The Caps came out on top with an 8-3 win.

Charron scored the first two goals of the game an the last goal for Washington in the game with the team heading into the third period with an 8-0 lead. Guy also assisted on two goals by Bob Sirois and a single by Robert Picard for a six point game. All eight Washington goals were scored on Gary Edwards with Gilles Meloche coming in for the third and stopping all eight shots put his way.

On March 28, 1978, it was the Boston Bruins coming to town. Charron scored the first goal of the game on Ron Grahame but 47 seconds into the third, Gregg Sheppard scored to give Boston a 4-2 lead. Guy came back with two goals and the game ended in a 4-4 tie. This was a big feat for the Capitals, a team with 13 wins in 74 games against a Bruins team that lost just 15 of their first 74.

Between 1969-70 and 1980-81, Guy Charron played 734 regular season games in the National Hockey League with the Montreal Canadiens, Detroit Red Wings, Kansas City Scouts and Washington Capitals. Charron never played a post season game in the NHL.
