Details
Gregg Sheppard did have 12 points on two goals and ten assists over 15 games in the 1977-78 Stanley Cup playoffs. It was the second straight year with 12 points but not his career best. With the Bruins in 1973-74, Sheppard scored eleven and assisted on eight for 19 points in 16 games.
The 11 that year were just five off his regular season total of 16 over 75 games. Of those eleven, two were shorthanded and two were game winners. He had four 3-point games, including game 5 of the final series against the Philadelphia Flyers.
The two shorthanded goals in 21 seconds mentioned on the back of this 1979-80 O-Pee-Chee Gregg Sheppard hockey card occurred on March 9, 1975 at the Boston Garden in a 5-2 win over the Atlanta Flames. They were both empty net goals, one at 19:38 and the other at 19:59 with John Bucyk in the box for tripping and Atlanta goalie Dan Bouchard on the bench for the extra attacker. Bobby Orr assisted on the second goal for his fourth helper of the game.
Between 1972-73 and 1981-82, Gregg Sheppard played 657 regular season and 82 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Boston Bruins and Pittsburgh Penguins. Five times, he scored 20 or more in a season, topping out with 31 in each of the 1975-76 and 1976-77 seasons.
