A beautiful skater and stickhandler, he brings the puck from his own end and sets up his own plays. Gord was right end of the famous “Abel, Lindsay, Howe” combination. He has been on NHL “All-Star” team for past 4 seasons, and leading scorer for the past 2 years, setting a new record in 1950-51 with 86 points, which he equaled again last year to shatter Cain’s record of 82 points.

The original “Production Line” for the Detroit Red Wings had Sid Abel at centre between Gordie Howe and Ted Lindsay. When Abel was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks, Alex Delvecchio took over the centre position between Howe and Lindsay.

In the string of four consecutive All-Star selections mentioned on the back of this 1952-53 Parkhurst hockey card, the first two were Second Team, followed by a pair years on the First Team. In all, Howe was named an NHL First Team All-Star 12 times and Second Team nine times.

His stranglehold on the Art Ross Trophy would last two more years. In 1952-53, he broke his own record with 95 points. The Cain referred on the back of the card was Herb Cain. In 1943-44, he set a record of 88 points in just 48 games.

In 1952-53, Howe would score a personal best 49 goals. He would never achieve the elusive 50 goal plateau despite scored a whopping total of 801 regular season goals over his NHL career. If he had scored one more in 1952-53, he would have joined just Maurice Richard in reaching the milestone.

Between 1946-47 and 1978-80, Gordie Howe played 1,767 regular season and 157 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Detroit Red Wings and Hartford Whalers. Between 1973-74 and 1978-79, he appeared in 419 regular season and 78 playoff games in the WHA with the Houston Aeros and New England Whalers.
