Card Notes

It’s the little things. On the front of the card, Glenn Hall is holding his mask in his glove hand. This is odd for a posed picture and gives a glimpse into the early era of NHL goalies wearing face masks. It gets even more interesting when you read this article from The Hockey Writers.

Here’s a quote:

During the bulk of his career, he never wore a hockey goalie mask. He a mask for the first time in his career on November 13, 1968, perhaps with the persuasion of new teammate, face-mask innovator, former Hab great and fellow goaltending legend, Jacques Plante.

So, this photo of Glenn Hall holding a face mask comes several years before he supposedly wore won for the first time.

The spelling cops have found an error on the back of the card! “Glenn does wierd backbends and other acrobatics…)”. I before E except after C – with some exceptions! Wierd should be spelled weird (an exception to the rule)…
