Details
Gilbert Perreault‘s eight game winning goals in 1974-75 were one more than Craig Ramsay’s seven. This placed him in a five player log-jam for fifth in the NHL with Phil Esposito, Jacques Lemaire, Rick MacLeish and Garry Unger.
One of those game winners was in a March 16, 1975 game against Toronto at Maple Leaf Gardens. The Sabres blew out the Leafs 11-3 and Perreault had six points on three goals and three assists. His second goal of the game, scored at 17:33 of the first period made the score 4-1 and held on as the winning goal. Fred Stanfield benefited from playing with Perreault and had a five point game of his own. Rick Martin had an enhanced Gordie Howe Hat Trick with three goals and an assist, along with a fight with Lanny McDonald.
1975-76 would be a career year for Gil. He scored 44 and assisted on 69 for 113 points, all career highs. It was the first of two times he would surpass the 100 point plateau. He was third in the quest for the Art Ross Trophy, 12 points behind leader Guy Lafleur and six behind runner-up Bobby Clarke.
Between 1970-71 and 1986-87, Gilbert Perreault played 1,191 regular season and 90 playoff games in the National Hockey League, all with the Buffalo Sabres. The 1970-71 Calder Trophy winner was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1990.
