Details
Ace Bailey played his major junior hockey in what is now the WHL with the Edmonton Oil Kings. In his final season, 1966-67, he finished third in the league with 47 goals and 8th with 93 points. He was also second with 177 penalty minutes.
Bailey led the Bill Gadsby coached Oil Kings in scoring and helped them to a first overall finish. However, Edmonton was bounced in the second round of the playoffs by the fourth place Moose Jaw Canucks. The Canucks went on to win the championship, beating the Regina Pats in the final.
Garnet played 568 regular season games in the NHL between 1968-69 and 1977-78 with the Bruins, Detroit Red Wings, St. Louis Blues and Washington Capitals. He made his return to Edmonton for the 1978-79 WHA season to play with the Oilers.
Of course, Ace Bailey’s life was cut short on September 11, 2001 as he was aboard one of the flights that crashed into New York City’s World Trade Center Towers.
