“Ferdinand the Bull” is captain and bulwark of the defense. A solid veteran, he is also one of the most feared players in hand-to-hand combat. Only 17 when he broke in with Bruins, was traded to Toronto and then reclaimed in later deal.

Details
Fernie Flaman was only 17 years old when he played his first NHL game, a single match with the Boston Bruins in 1944-45. The rest of his season was spent in the EHL with the Boston Olympics. He played one more game in 1945-46 before getting a more regular role in the following campaign.
After games with the Bruins in 1950-51, Flaman was dealt to the Toronto Maple Leafs on November 15 with Phil Maloney and Kenny Smith for Bill Ezinicki and Vic Lynn. He arrived just in time to win a Stanley Cup championship with the Buds, the only one of his NHL career.
Following the 1953-54 season, Fern was traded back to Boston for Dave Creighton. He was named team captain for 1955-56. In his second go around with the Bruins, Flaman and the club reached the Stanley Cup final in consecutive seasons under head coach Milt Schmidt. In both 1956-57 and 1957-58, they lost out to the Montreal Canadiens.
Between 1944-45 and 1960-61, Fern Flaman appeared in 910 regular season and 63 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Bruins and Maple Leafs. He moved on to a lengthy coaching career in the AHL, WHL, CHL and U.S. University system. Flaman was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1990.
