Errol Thompson was third on the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1974-75 with 25 goals, eleven behind leader Darryl Sittler. Of his four game winning goals in 1974-75, two were in games against the St. Louis Blues, along with wins over the Chicago Blackhawks and Vancouver Canucks.

In a game against the Blackhawks on December 8, 1974 at Chicago Stadium, Thompson pounded Tony Esposito with ten shots. Two reached the back of the net. Errol’s first of the game, scored at 9:00 of the third, assisted by Lanny McDonald and George Ferguson, held as the game winner in the 4-1 victory. Dunc Wilson was outstanding for the Leafs, stopping 37 of 38 shots in the win.

On March 8, 1975, Thompson recorded his first of five career hat tricks in the NHL. At Maple Leaf Gardens in a 5-3 win over the Minnesota North Stars, Errol scored his three while putting nine shots toward Pete LoPresti. He also assisted on the game winner, scored by Rod Seiling midway through the third.

Between 1970-71 and 1980-81, Errol Thompson played 599 regular season and 34 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Detroit Red Wings and Pittsburgh Penguins. Thompson surpassed the 20 goal plateau seven times over his career and scored a career high 43 goals in 1975-76.
