Details
ERROR! Eddie Shack did score 26 goals for the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1965-66 but this was a career high at the time this card was published. In 1970-71, Shack started the season with the Los Angeles Kings but was traded to the Buffalo Sabres eleven games into the campaign. He scored two goals with the Kings and another 25 with the Sabres for a total of 27.
The 27 goals with the Kings / Sabres turned out to be a career high for Eddie. He came close again in 1972-73, scoring 25 for the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Over his career, Shack scored 239 goals over 1,047 regular season games between 1958-59 and 1974-75 with the New York Rangers, Toronto Maple Leafs, Boston Bruins, Los Angeles Kings, Buffalo Sabres and Pittsburgh Penguins. This 1973-74 O-Pee-Chee hockey card shows him at the start of his second tour of duty with the Maple Leafs.
Shack originally came to Toronto from the New York Rangers through a November 7, 1960 trade that saw Pat Hannigan and Johnny Wilson go in the other direction. The Rangers had tried to trade him to the Detroit Red Wings the season before. The deal was for a February 5, 1960 exchange with Bill Gadsby while Red Kelly and Billy McNeill would go to New York. Kelly and McNeill refused to report to the Rangers and the trade was voided.
He was shipped to the Bruins at the end of the 1966-67 season and made his return to Toronto when he was purchased from the Penguins on July 3, 1973.
