Hard-hitting Eddie was the Philadelphia team’s first pick in the 1967 Expansion Draft. He twice led the AHL in penalties before cracking the NHL with Chicago in 1966-67. Ed seldom scores a goal, but he specializes in keeping the opposition off the scoreboard with tough body checks.

Error… Ed Van Impe was actually the third pick by the Philadelphia Flyers at the 1967 Expansion Draft. Ahead of him were goaltenders Bernie Parent and Doug Favell.
As a member of the Buffalo Bisons, Ed led the AHL with 196 penalty minutes in 1962-63. The following year, 1963-64, he led again with 193 PIM. Those two seasons were sandwiched in between second place finishes in 1961-62 (172 PIM) and 1964-65 (197 PIM).
Van Impe was the second captain in the history of the Flyers. In their inaugural 1967-68 season, Lou Angotti wore the ‘C’. Ed took over at the start of 1968-69. That role was handed over to Bobby Clarke on January 17, 1973, not long after this hockey card was released.
Ed Van Impe played 700 regular season and 66 playoff games in the National Hockey League between 1966-67 and 1976-77 with the Chicago Blackhawks, Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins. He was twice a Stanley Cup champion with Philly..
