Card Notes

Doug constantly shuffled from forward to defense, but has speed plus shot to star anywhere. Willing to play wherever needed, he’ll probably be switched to center.

Details

1963-64 would be the last season with the Boston Bruins for Doug Mohns. Prior to the 1964-65 campaigns, he was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks for Reg Fleming and Ab McDonald. With Chicago, Diesel put up his best offensive numbers, topping the 20 goal plateau in four consecutive seasons. His 60 points in 1966-67 placed him ninth in the race for the Art Ross Trophy, just a single point behind both Phil Esposito and Phil Goyette.

Back in 1957-58, Doug missed 16 of Boston’s 70 regular season games. However, he was in fine form for the playoffs, totaling 13 points in 12 games. The Bruins finished the regular season just below .500 but reached the Stanley Cup final after eliminating the New York Rangers in the opening round. Boston eventually fell to the mighty Montreal Canadiens in the final.

Between 1953-54 and 1974-75, Doug Mohns played 1,389 regular season and 94 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Bruins, Blackhawks, Minnesota North Stars, Atlanta Flames and Washington Capitals. He was the first ever team captain for the Capitals, serving in their inaugural 1974-75 NHL campaign.
