Details

When this 1976-77 O-Pee-Chee hockey card came out, no one had a clue about what had started with Doug Jarvis and the Montreal Canadiens in 1975-76. Jarvis would not miss a single game during his National Hockey League career. His record of 964 consecutive games played lasted until 2022 when Keith Yandle topped it with 989. Phil Kessel now owns the mark with 1,064.

It was also the start of a four year dominance of the Stanley Cup by the Habs. They would win the championship in Doug’s first four years in the league, the only four titles during his career.

After an outstanding junior career with the Peterborough Petes, Jarvis was a second round pick by the Toronto Maple Leafs at the 1975 NHL Amateur Draft. However, he was soon after traded to the Habs for Greg Hubick and never wore a Maple Leafs jersey. It was a great trade for Montreal as Hubick played one full season in the NHL, 1975-76, then just five more games in 1979-80 with the Vancouver Canucks.

Over his 964 regular season games between 1975-76 and 1987-88, the defensive forward contributed 403 points. He added 41 points in 105 playoff games. Along with the Canadiens, Jarvis also played for the Washington Capitals and Hartford Whalers.
