Details

Despite playing just 49 regular season games for the Chicago Blackhawks in 1972-73, Doug Jarrett missed just one of 16 in the post season. The solid stay-at-home defenseman had three assists in those 15 games, two on goals by Dennis Hull and one on a Ralph Backstrom marker. Chicago reached the Stanley Cup final before falling to the Montreal Canadiens in six.

In 1966-67, Jarrett got some consideration for the Norris Trophy as the NHL’s top defenseman, finishing seventh in voting. He was a great distance behind the battle between winner Harry Howell of the New York Rangers and Doug’s teammate Pierre Pilote.

That year, in a January 14, 1967 game against the New York Rangers at Chicago Stadium, Jarrett had three assists in the 5-3 win. He had helpers on goals by Dennis Hull, Stan Mikita and Bobby Hull. The Mikita marker, scored at 11:37 of the second on New York goalie Ed Giacomin, made the score 4-0 for the Blackhawks and held on as the game winner.

Between 1964-65 and 1976-77, Doug Jarrett played 775 regular season and 99 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Chicago Blackhawks and New York Rangers. He went to the Stanley Cup final twice with the Hawks, losing to the Montreal Canadiens in 1970-71 and 1972-73.
