Details

The partnership between Doug Favell and Bernie Parent started back in 1963-64 and 1964-65 when they were a goaltending tandem in junior with the Niagara Falls Flyers. In 1965, the two helped the Flyers to a Memorial Cup championship. The team was ripe with future NHLers like Jean Pronovost, Derek Sanderson, Bill Goldsworthy, Don Marcotte, Jim Lorentz and Rick Ley.

After that, both moved on to the Oklahoma City Blazers in the CHL, where they also shared time with Gerry Cheevers. Parent found his way up to the Bruins but Doug did not. He got his NHL start in 1967-68 with the Philadelphia Flyers after Parent and him were the first two picks by the club at the 1967 NHL Expansion Draft.

Favell came to the Toronto Maple Leafs to start the 1973-74 NHL season. Sharing time with Dunc Wilson and Ed Johnston, Doug had the best numbers of the three with a 2.71 goals against average in 32 games.

Between 1967-68 and 1978-79, Doug Favell played 373 regular season and 21 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Philadelphia Flyers, Toronto Maple Leafs and Colorado Rockies. He had 18 shutouts over his career, including a five blank season with the Flyers in 1971-72.
