One-half of what most hockey experts consider the best one-two goaltending combination in the NHL, Doug and Bernie Parent, each season have been high in the leading goaltenders’ list. He has recovered from injuries which put him out for the last third of 1969-70 season.

As great of a duo that Doug Favell and Bernie Parent were in the early days of the Philadelphia Flyers franchise, the team couldn’t keep them together. In that 1970-71 season, on January 31, 1971, Parent was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs for Bruce Gamble and Mike Walton.
This left Favell as the number one goalie in Philadelphia. That is, until the end of the 1972-73 season. Ironically, Doug would also end up with the Toronto Maple Leafs. In 1973-74, he was the lead man in a trio of goalies that included Dunc Wilson and Ed Johnston.
Meanwhile, after time with the Leafs and with the Philadelphia Blazers of the WHA, Bernie Parent was back as the number one goalie with the Flyers for the 1973-74 season.
Doug Favell played 373 regular season and 17 Stanley Cup playoff games in the National Hockey League between 1967-68 and 1978-79 with the Flyers, Maple Leafs and Colorado Rockies. Over that time, he recorded 18 shutouts. None of those blanks were more important than the one on October 19, 1967.
The Flyers were at home at the Spectrum to play the Pittsburgh Penguins. Philadelphia won the game 1-0 on a third period goal by Bill Sutherland. It would be the first shutout for both Favell and the Flyers NHL franchise.
