Card Notes

Don’s a versatile forward who plays at all three positions and can kill penalties too. Rangers acquired him in summer swap with Montreal. He’s smart and shifty.

Details

Don Marshall was traded from the Montreal Canadiens to the New York Rangers on June 4, 1963. Also going to the Rangers were Phil Goyette and Jacques Plante. Going in the other direction were Dave Balon, Leon Rochefort, Len Ronson and Gump Worsley.

Marshall didn’t get off to a quick start with New York. Don scored just eleven goals in 1963-64 while playing all of the team’s 70 regular season games. However, by 1965-66, he scored a career high 26 goals for the Blue Shirts.

Don Marshall played 1,176 regular season and 94 playoff games in the National Hockey League between 1951-52 and 1971-72 with the Canadiens, Rangers, Buffalo Sabres and Toronto Maple Leafs. He was a five time Stanley Cup champion with the Habs in the 1950’s.

Wikipedia Error

As a side note, while doing research on Don Marshall, we came across his page on Wikipedia. In the article, it states that on November 9, 1957, Marshall scored 4 seconds into the second period in a game against the Boston Bruins, a record that still stands today.

However, it wasn’t Marshall that scored the goal, it was Claude Provost. Don did score in the game, Montreal’s final goal of the game in a 4-2 win, assisted by Provost and Phil Goyette.
