Details

Don Marcotte became a regular with the Boston Bruins near the end of the 1969-70 NHL season and played in all 14 playoff games to help the Bruins capture the Stanley Cup. His penalty killing ability shone through in 1970-71, his first full season, when he scored two shorthanded goals on the same penalty on opening night against the Detroit Red Wings. See our Facebook post below for more details on that game.

Over his career, Marcotte would score 21 shorthanded goals but never more in a single campaign than the seven he scored in 1970-71. That put him in a second place tie with Ed Westfall, just a single SHG behind NHL leader Dave Keon.

A consistent goal scorer, Don had seven seasons reaching the 20 goal plateau. His career best came in 1974-75 when he scored 31 for the Bruins. But, he excelled as a defensive forward and was often in the mix for the Selke Trophy after it was introduced for the 1977-78 season. In 1978-79, he finished second in voting for the award in a close race with winner Bob Gainey of the Montreal Canadiens.

Between 1965-66 and 1981-82, Don Marcotte played 868 regular season and 132 playoff games in the National Hockey League, all with the Boston Bruins. He was a two-time Stanley Cup champion with the team.
