Don was the starting goalie for the Prince of Wales Squad in the 1981 NHL All-Star Game. At age 19 he became the youngest goalie ever selected for the mid-season classic. Don has an acrobatic, bouncy style of play. He always challenges shooters to beat him. Don’s last amateur club was the Sudbury Wolve of the OMJHL in 1979-80.

Don Beaupre was the starting goalie for the Prince of Wales team at the 1981 NHL All-Star game, hosted by the Los Angeles Kings organization at the Great Western Forum. He split the game with Kings goaltender Mario Lessard. Beaupre was credited with the loss as the Scotty Bowman coached all-star team fell 4-1. Don allowed goals by Kent Nilsson and Bill Barber.
After two years seeing the bulk of action in the nets for the Sudbury Wolves, Beaupre was taken in the second round of the 1980 NHL Entry Draft by the Minnesota North Stars, 37th overall. He made an immediate impact with the Stars, splitting time with veteran Gilles Meloche. He appeared in 44 regular season games, posting a 3.20 goals against average. He was third in voting for the Calder Trophy, behind Peter Stastny and Larry Murphy.
The following three seasons saw Don take a bit of step back, splitting time with the North Stars and their CHL affiliates. After Gilles Meloche left for the Pittsburgh Penguins after the 1984-85 campaign, Beaupre was finally in the number one role with the North Stars.
Between 1980-81 and 1996-97, Don Beaupre appeared in 667 regular season and 72 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the North Stars, Washington Capitals, Ottawa Senators and Toronto Maple Leafs. Despite only 17 career shutouts, Don led the league in 1990-91 with five blanks and is responsible for the first shutout in Ottawa Senators history.
