Card Notes

O-Pee-Chee did a pretty good job of painting on the Vancouver Canucks colours on the front of this hockey card. However, if you take a closer look, you can see that Derek Sanderson’s teammates are wearing the colours of the St. Louis Blues.

Derek played 32 games with the Blues in 1976-77 before being traded to the Canucks on February 18, 1977 for ‘future considerations’.

He never actually played for Vancouver in 1977-78, released by the club on October 19, 1977. After short stints in the CHL, four games each with the Tulsa Oilers and Kansas City Red Wings, Sanderson signed with the Pittsburgh Penguins on March 13, 1978. He finished out his NHL career with 18 games in a Penguins jersey. 1977-78 would be his last year playing professional hockey and the 1977-78 O-Pee-Chee card shown here would be his last as a player.
