Card Notes
As noted on the back of this 1978-79 O-Pee-Chee hockey card, Dennis O’Brien played for four different NHL teams during the 1977-78 National Hockey League season. After spending his entire NHL career with the Minnesota North Stars, his days with the club ended 13 games into the season. Dennis spent time with the Colorado Rockies and Cleveland Barons before ending up with the Boston Bruins.
It ended up being a good journey for O’Brien as he played 14 playoff games for the Bruins with the team reaching the Stanley Cup final before falling to the Montreal Canadiens. His other three teams did not fare as well with the North Stars and Barons not qualifying for the post season and the Rockies losing in the first round to the Philadelphia Flyers.
His four NHL teams in one season remains a record. However, the feat has been equaled three times since. In 1991-92, Dave McLlwain played for the Buffalo Sabres, New York Islanders, Toronto Maple Leafs and Winnipeg Jets. In 2014-15, Mark Arcobello appeared in games with the Arizona Coyotes, Edmonton Oilers, Nashville Predators and Pittsburgh Penguins. In 2017-18, Jussi Jokinen played for the Columbus Blue Jackets, Edmonton Oilers, Los Angeles Kings and Vancouver Canucks.
