Details
There is an ERROR on the back of this 1966-67 Topps Denis DeJordy hockey card. He was EPHL rookie of the year in 1959-60 and won the Harry Hap Holmes Award as the AHL’s top goaltender in 1962-63 but he did not win it in 1961-62 as the card suggests. In both 1960-61 and 1961-62, the winner was Marcel Paille of the Springfield Indians.
However, DeJordy also won the Les Cunningham Award in 1962-63 as the AHL’s MVP. That year, he played a major role in the Buffalo Bisons Calder Cup championship. He also saw his first NHL action, playing five games for the Blackhawks.
DeJordy recorded his first three shutouts in 1964-65, a year he played 30 games backing up Glenn Hall. Despite the success, he was back in the minors the following year, playing for the St. Louis Braves in the CPHL.
The first blank was a big one, stopping all 38 shots in a December 13, 1964 5-0 win over the Detroit Red Wings at Chicago Stadium. Gordie Howe led the barrage with ten shots but Denis stopped them all. Stan Mikita led offensively with a goal (the game winner) and two assists.
Between 1962-63 and 1973-74, Denis DeJordy played 316 regular season and 18 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Chicago Blackhawks, Los Angeles Kings, Montreal Canadiens and Detroit Red Wings.
