Details

1962-63 was a magical year for Denis DeJordy and the Buffalo Bisons. DeJordy played 67 of the team’s 72 regular season games with Roger Crozier serving as backup. The Bisons finished first overall and had the lowest goals against. Denis earned the Harry Hap Holmes Award as the AHL’s top goalie and the Les Cunningham Award as the league’s most valuable player.

In the post season, DeJordy led the way in net and John McKenzie led offensively as the Bisons captured the Calder Cup championship. Buffalo took out the Providence Reds in the opening round and beat the Hershey Bears in the final. It wasn’t exactly easy with the first series going six games and the final round going the full seven.

1963-64 wasn’t the year that Denis became an NHL regular. He got into six games with the Chicago Blackhawks but Glenn Hall was still the dominant number one with the club. The following year, however, he appeared in 30 games for the Hawks and was able to record his first three of 15 career shutouts in the NHL.

His first career blank was a 38 save affair against the Detroit Red Wings. The Hawks won 5-0 powered by Stan Mikita‘s three point game. It was his former Bisons backup Roger Crozier in net for the Red Wings, allowing five goals on just 22 shots.

Between 1962-63 and 1973-74, Denis DeJordy played 316 regular season and 18 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Chicago Blackhawks, Los Angeles Kings, Montreal Canadiens and Detroit Red Wings. In 1966-67, he shared the Vezina Trophy with Glenn Hall.
