The four minor league games mentioned on the back of this Dave Keon 1964-65 Topps hockey card were with the Sudbury Wolves of the EPHL in 1959-60. Keon had just finished up his fourth year of junior hockey with Toronto St. Michael’s and jumped to the Wolves to finish off the season. First seed Sudbury fell to the Montreal Royals in the final.

His 20 goal season streak would extend to six years before a pair of low scoring campaigns came along in 1966-67 and 1967-68. In all, he surpassed the 20 goal plateau eleven times over his NHL career and topped 30 on three occasions. His best season offensively came in 1970-71 when he scored 38 goals and totaled 76 points.

As noted on the back of the card, Keon finished second in voting for the Lady Byng Trophy in 1963-64. Ken Wharram of the Chicago Blackhawks took the award while Camille Henry of the New York Rangers was close behind. The French version of the info snippet adds that Dave won the award in the previous two seasons, 1961-62 and 1962-63. These would stand as the only two times Keon would win the award. He was the recipient of the Paul Deneau Trophy twice, the WHA’s equivalent of the Byng.

Between 1960-61 and 1981-82, Dave Keon played in 1,296 regular season and 92 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Hartford Whalers. He also played 301 regular season and 36 playoff games in the WHA between 1975-76 and 1978-79 with the Minnesota Fighting Saints, Indianapolis Racers and New England Whalers. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1986.
