Details

The Los Angeles Kings selected Dave Hutchison in the third round of the 1972 NHL Amateur Draft out of the London Knights. He didn’t end up with the Kings right away, instead starting his major league career in the WHA with the Philadelphia / Vancouver Blazers.

After four years with the Kings, Hutchison was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs on June 14, 1978 with Lorne Stamler for Scott Garland, Brian Glennie and Kurt Walker. His time in Toronto was somewhat limited. He played the full 1978-79 NHL season with the Maple Leafs before a January 10, 1980 trade sent him to the Chicago Blackhawks for Pat Ribble.

A defensive defenseman, Dave scored just 19 goals over 584 regular season games in the NHL. The six he scored with the Kings in 1976-77 remained his career best. His first was scored on October 7, 1976 at the Omni in Atlanta. It was the second game of the year and the 120th of Hutch’s career.

That first career goal was scored on Atlanta goalie Dan Bouchard, assisted by Bert Wilson and Juha Widing. Hutchison and Bouchard were teammates with the London Knights in 1969-70. Los Angeles lost the game 4-2 with Dave Schultz scoring the other Kings goal.

Between 1974-75 and 1983-84, Dave Hutchison played 584 regular season and 48 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Los Angeles Kings, Toronto Maple Leafs, Chicago Blackhawks and New Jersey Devils.
