Card Notes

Despite missing almost half of last season, Dave still led the Kings in penalty minutes. His aggressive style of play has gained him a reputation.

En Français

Même s’il manqua presque la moitié de la saison dernière, Dave fut le joueur le plus pénalisé des Kings. Il est réputé pour son style de jeu agressif, mais on apprécie aussi son “esprit d’équipe”.

Details

Dave Hutchison led the Los Angeles Kings in penalty minutes for the 1975-76 NHL season with 181, a 16 PIM edge of runner-up Neil Komadoski. He upped his total to 220 in 1976-77 while appearing in 70 games but was not the team leaders. Newcomer Dave “The Hammer” Schultz led the Kings with 232.

What Hutchison did do in 1976-77 was score his first NHL goal. In his 120th game in the league (following 97 scoreless games in the WHA), he got the first marker in a October 7, 1976 road game against the Atlanta Flames. After a scoreless first period, Atlanta put in four straight on Rogie Vachon before Hutch scored the milestone goal on Dan Bouchard. In the 4-2 loss to the Flames, interestingly the other Kings goal was scored by Dave Schultz.

Hutchison scored a career high six goals in 1976-77, three of which were game winners. These turned out to be the GWG of his career. Over his ten year NHL career, Dave scored just 19 during the regular season and added two over 48 playoff games.

Between 1974-75 and 1983-84, Dave Hutchison played 584 regular season and 48 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Los Angeles Kings, Toronto Maple Leafs, Chicago Blackhawks and New Jersey Devils. His time in the WHA was spent with the Philadephia / Vancouver Blazers in 1972-73 and 1973-74. He was originally a third round pick by the Kings at the 1972 NHL Amateur Draft out of the London Knights.
