Details
For Dave Creighton, this 1960-61 Parkhurst hockey card would be his last. In fact, Creighton played his last NHL hockey during the 1959-60 season with the Maple Leafs, appearing in just 14 games. The numbers shown on the back of this card are the final tally on his National Hockey League career.
Dave wasn’t done with his playing career yet, though. He would continue on in the American Hockey League for nine seasons, eventually hanging up the blades after the 1968-69 AHL season.
His AHL career was quite successful. He helped the Rochester Americans to the Calder Cup final in 1959-60, losing to the Springfield Indians in the final. The series was decided in just five games but was actually quite close with Springfield outscoring the Amerks by a total of 17-16.
Two years later, Creighton was with the Buffalo Bisons and, again, it was the Springfield Indians that denied him a Calder Cup championship. Once again, the final series was decided in five games.
In his final three seasons in the league, 1966-67 to 1968-69, Creighton was player / head coach with the Providence Reds. He would remain behind the bench for one more season. 1967-68 was perhaps his best season in the league. He was fourth in the league with 53 assists and tied for tenth with 75 points. His Reds seventh in the eight team league but reached the semi-final before falling to the Quebec Aces.
