Card Notes

Dan has quickly developed into one of the brightest goaltending prospects in the National Hockey League. His daring style includes a lot of wandering from the net to trap loose pucks. Before coming to the Flames, he was an All-Star performer in the American Hockey League. Last season was his best ever. The Flames are counting on him as a key player. Dan was one of the first players chosen when Flames were formed in 1972.

Details

Originally a second round draft pick by the Boston Bruins at the 1970 NHL Amateur Draft (from the London Knights), Dan Bouchard had an outstanding season with their AHL affiliate in 1971-72, winning the Harry “Hap” Holmes Award with the Boston Braves. He appeared in 50 games for the club, posting a 2.51 goals against average with four shutouts.

Bouchard never had a chance to play for the Bruins in the NHL, however. At the 1972 NHL Expansion Draft, he was selected third overall and was the second pick by the Atlanta Flames. Ahead of him, going first overall, was fellow Atlanta goalie Phil Myre. Phil was snatched up from the Montreal Canadiens organization.

The five shutouts Bouchard posted in 1973-74 would stand as a career best. Taking over the number one role from Myre, Dan led the Flames to the post season in just their second year of existence. In a four game sweep at the hands of the Philadelphia Flyers in the opening round, Dan played just game three, a 4-1 loss.

Between 1972-73 and 1985-86, Dan Bouchard appeared in 655 regular season and 43 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Flames, Quebec Nordiques and Winnipeg Jets. He finished his career with 27 shutouts.
