Details

The grandson of Lester Patrick and son of Lynn Patrick, Craig is perhaps much better known as a coach and general manager than as a player. Still, his NHL playing career was respectable, despite being on some pretty lackluster teams.

The 1972-73 NHL season depicted on the back of this 1973-74 O-Pee-Chee hockey card turned out to be a career year for Patrick. He scored 20 goals, finishing just behind Reg Leach for fourth on the team. His 22 assists and 42 points were also personal bests. The Golden Seals did not fare well, finishing above only the expansion New York Islanders in the final standings.

His only Stanley Cup playoff experience as a player came in 1974-75 with the St. Louis Blues. Craig played in both games as the Blues were swept in the best of three preliminary round by the Pittsburgh Penguins. Patrick had come to St. Louis via a November 10, 1974 trade that saw Dave Gardner and Butch Williams go to California.

Between 1971-72 and 1978-79, Craig Patrick appeared in 401 regular season and just the two playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Golden Seals, Blues, Kansas City Scouts and Washington Capitals. He also had a 30 game stint in the WHA with the Minnesota Fighting Saints in 1976-77. Patrick was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2001 in the Builders Category.
