Details

Chris Oddleifson was originally a first round pick by the California Golden Seals at the 1970 NHL Amateur Draft, selected 10th overall. He never played for the Seals and on November 17, 1971 was traded to the Boston Bruins with Richard Leduc for Ivan Boldirev.

Oddleifson got his NHL feet wet with the Bruins but it was after a February 7, 1974 trade sent him to the Vancouver Canucks that his career took off. In that deal, Fred O’Donnell also went west in exchange for Bobby Schmautz.

Ironically, the first goal Chris scored in the National Hockey League was against the Canucks. In the first game of the 1973-74 season, Oddleifson’s Bruins hosted Vancouver at the Boston Garden. In a 6-4 win, Chris scored the fourth goal of the game for Boston to put the Bruins up 4-2 early in the third period. He also assisted on the sixth Boston goal, an empty-netter by Ken Hodge and also assisted by Phil Esposito.

Between 1972-73 and 1980-81, Chris Oddleifson appeared in 524 regular season and 14 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Bruins and Canucks. He is a member of the Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame.
