The Canadiens met the Buds in the opening round of the playoffs and Hodge came through with a 25 save shutout in game one. Claude Provost had a two point night in the 2-0 win, assisting on goals by Bernie Geoffrion and Ralph Backstrom. Toronto would eventually win the series in seven games.
Along with winning the Vezina Trophy in 1963-64, Hodge was named a Second Team All-Star, behind Glenn Hall of the Chicago Blackhawks. He also had some consideration for the Hart Trophy, finishing fourth in voting behind Jean Beliveau, Bobby Hull and Gordie Howe.
Hodge continued on in the number one role in 1964-65 with Gump Worsley appearing in 19 games in relief. The two share duties in the playoffs as the Canadiens captured their first of two consecutive Stanley Cup championships. Charlie recorded a game five 6-0 shutout in the final series against the Chicago Blackhawks, turning away 23 shots.
At the 1967 NHL Expansion Draft, Hodge was the first pick by the Oakland Seals. In just the team’s second game, Charlie recorded the first shutout in franchise history. He had to make just 20 saves in a 6-0 home victory over the Minnesota North Stars.
