Card Notes

“Superpest” is Bryan’s nickname, and it’s well-earned. He’s one of the NHL’s most daring players. His style has always been a popular one, and last year he led the league in penalty minutes with 210.

En Français

Details

We’ll call it a typo. In the French version of the snippet on the back of this 1972-73 O-Pee-Chee Bryan Watson hockey card, his nickname is “Supertest”, as opposed to “Superpest” in English.

Despite his reputation and style of play, the 1971-72 season noted on the back of this card was the only one Bugsy led the National Hockey League in penalty minutes. He finished his career with 2,212 PIM over just 877 regular season games.

Bryan Watson played in the NHL from 1963-64 to 1978-79 with the Montreal Canadiens, Detroit Red Wings, Oakland Seals, Pittsburgh Penguins, St. Louis Blues and Washington Capitals. His career PIM total ranks him 42nd all-time in the NHL. His 17 career goals in the league doesn’t quite rank him as high…
