Details

1964-65 was the first of three NHL seasons that Bruce MacGregor would reach the 20 goal plateau. He topped out with a career best of 28 in 1966-67, leading the Red Wings and tying Rod Gilbert for fourth spot in the league.

In 1965-66, MacGregor would pot exactly 20 for the Red Wings. Three of the 20 came on the night of December 19, 1965 in a 5-4 loss to the Blackhawks at Chicago Stadium. Bruce fired seven shots at Hawks goalie Glenn Hall. All three of the hat trick goals were assisted by Andy Bathgate.

Never a Stanley Cup champion, MacGregor reached the final four times with the Red Wings and once with the New York Rangers. He had just a single goal over 12 games in the 1965-66 playoffs, the second goal of a 5-2 win over the Montreal Canadiens in the final to put Detroit up 2-0 in the series. However, Montreal roared back with four straight wins to capture the championship.

Between 1960-61 and 1973-74, Bruce MacGregor appeared in 893 regular season and 107 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Detroit Red Wings and New York Rangers. He played two more years in the WHA with the Edmonton Oilers before calling it a career as a player.
