Bruins drafted this husky goalie when he was left unprotected by Rangers in 1959. He’d been rookie of the year in Western League. Bruce did bulk of netminding for Bruins in 1960-61, then was called again when Don Head failed in ’62.

Bruce Gamble would not play in the NHL in 1962-63, instead playing mostly all of the games for the Kingston Frontenacs in the EPHL and leading that team to a championship. The Bruins opted to go with a young Ed Johnston as their number one in 62-63 with Bob Perreault backing him up. Bruce would never play for Boston again and would not return to the NHL until the 1965-66 season.

In 1961-62, Gamble would record the first of his 22 career shutouts in the NHL. On March 15, 1962, the Bruins were visiting the Red Wings at Detroit Olympia. Bruce turned away all 31 shots put his way for the 4-0 blank. Providing the offense were John Bucyk, Wayne Connelly, Doug Mohns and Murray Oliver, all with a goal each.

Between 1958-59 and 1971-72, Bruce Gamble appeared in 328 regular season and just five playoff games in the National Hockey League with the New York Rangers, Boston Bruins, Toronto Maple Leafs and Philadelphia Flyers. He won WHL rookie of the year honours in 1958-59, playing for the Vancouver Canucks.
