Bobby Clarke was awarded the Hart Trophy as NHL MVP in 1972-73, 1974-75 and 1975-76. He was often considered for the award over his NHL career and was runner-up to Guy Lafleur of the Montreal Canadiens in 1976-77.

A true playmaker, Clarke never scored more than 37 goals in a single season yet topped the 100 point plateau three times, predominantly on assists. He led the NHL in both 1974-75 and 1975-76 with 89 helpers in each. These two campaigns still stand today as franchise records with Mark Recchi coming the closest with 70 in 1992-93.

In 1975-76, he had five assists in a single game. On April 1, 1976, Clarke assisted on all three Bill Barber hat trick goals, along with singles by Reg Leach and Tom Bladon. The Flyers dominated the Washington Capitals 11-2 in the match, pummeling Ron Low with 62 shots.

Between 1969-70 and 1983-84, Bobby Clarke played 1,144 regular season and 136 playoff games in the National Hockey League, all with the Philadelphia Flyers. He was a second round pick by the Flyers at the 1969 NHL Amateur Draft after a stellar junior career with the Flin Flon Bombers. Clarke was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1987.
