Details
Bobby Clarke’s Hart Trophy win in 1972-73 would be his first of three during his NHL career. Clarke would also be named MVP in consecutive seasons, 1974-75 and 1975-76. His 104 points in 1972-73 were second to just Phil Esposito and three points ahead of Bobby Orr. It was the first of three times he would top the 100 point plateau.
Clarke’s numbers actually dropped in 1973-74 but his leadership pushed the Philadelphia Flyers to their first ever Stanley Cup championship. Of his 35 goals, six came over two hat trick games. One of those hat tricks was unique. On March 28, 1974, Bobby scored all three Flyers goals in a 3-3 tie with the Atlanta Flames. Two of the goals were shorthanded and one was on the powerplay.
Between 1969-70 and 1983-84, Bobby Clarke appeared in 1,144 regular season and 136 playoff games in the National Hockey League, all with the Philadelphia Flyers. Bobby was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1987. His jersey number 16 was retired by the Flyers in 1984.
