Minnesota’s leading goal-getter for the past two seasons, Bill has really hit his stride after a pair of so-so campaigns. Bill is an “original” North Star, coming from Boston in the big Expansion Draft of June, 1967.

After playing 33 games with the Boston Bruins over three seasons, Bill Goldsworthy was the eleventh player selected by the Minnesota North Stars at the 1967 NHL Expansion Draft, 62nd overall. With the Stars, Goldie immediately a full-time job in the NHL, but as the card says, he didn’t take off as a goal-scorer until his third year with the club.
In 1969-70, Goldsworthy’s 36 goals led the North Stars with a seven goal edge over future 50-goal scorer Danny Grant. He placed sixth overall in the NHL, seven behind leader Phil Esposito and two behind a fourth place tie between Bobby Hull and Frank Mahovlich.
1971-72 would see Bill top the 30 goal plateau for the third consecutive season, scoring 31 and again leading the North Stars. Three came in the sixth game of the season, a 5-1 home win over the Buffalo Sabres. Within the first 5:18 of the game, Goldsworthy scored a pair on Dave Dryden to give the Stars an early 2-0 lead. The second remained as the game winner.
In the post season, Bill scored an overtime game winner in game two of the opening round to give Minnesota a 2-0 lead over the St. Louis Blues. Unfortunately, the Blues clawed back and took the series in seven games, winning game 7 in overtime.
Between 1964-65 and 1977-78, Bill Goldsworthy played 771 regular season and 40 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Boston Bruins, Minnesota North Stars and New York Rangers. He also played 49 regular season and four playoff games in the WHA with the Indianapolis Racers and Edmonton Oilers at the end of his career.
