Details
He became one of the first star players for the Minnesota North Stars but Bill Goldsworthy was just the team’s eleventh pick, 62nd overall at the 1967 NHL Expansion Draft. Previously, Bill played 33 games with the Boston Bruins over a span of three seasons.
Minnesota didn’t quite get the goal scoring they were looking for out of Goldsworthy in 1968-69 but he improved vastly the following year. He more than doubled his best season to date with 36 goals in 1969-70. It was his first of five seasons reaching the 30 goal plateau. He would put up a career high 48 in 1973-74.
Still, Goldsworthy was clutch in 1968-69 with three of his 14 goals turning out to be game winners, the first three of 36 GWG he would score over his NHL career. Two of the three were scored against the Los Angeles Kings. On January 25, 1969, he scored a pair of goals on Gerry Desjardins in a 3-2 win.
Less than a month later, on February 19, 1969, Bill scored a pair of goals against the Kings and added an assist on a Walt McKechnie goal in a 7-4 Minnesota win. His first, scored on Jacques Caron, made the score 5-1 and proved to be all the North Stars would need for the win.
Between 1964-65 and 1977-78, Bill Goldsworthy played 771 regular season and 40 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Boston Bruins, Minnesota North Stars and New York Rangers. He also played 49 regular season and four playoff games in the WHA between 1977-78 and 1978-79 with the Indianapolis Racers and Edmonton Oilers.
