Details

Indeed, Bill Barber was excellent on the penalty kill. In 1977-78, he tied for the team lead with Don Saleski, both scoring four shorthanded goals. In 1978-79, he stepped it up, leading the entire NHL with six shorties, one more than runner-up and teammate Rick MacLeish.

In a 4-2 win over the Kings at the Los Angeles Forum on April 1, 1978, Barber scored two shorthanded goals on the same penalty kill. At 2:36 of the first period, Andre Dupont was sent to the box for holding. At 4:04, Bill put his 40th of the season past Rogie Vachon with help from Bobby Clarke. At 4:31, he made the score 3-0, again assisted by Clarke. Only 4 minors were assessed in the game, all going to Philadelphia.

Between 1972-73 and 1983-84, Bill Barber played 903 regular season and 129 playoff games in the National Hockey League, all with the Philadelphia Flyers. Originally the seventh overall pick at the 1972 NHL Amateur Draft out of the Kitchener Rangers, Barber help the Broad Street Bullies to consecutive Stanley Cup championships. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1990.
