Past owner of a restaurant. Named MVP in 1982 NHL Slo-Pitch softball classic. Teaches hockey school in Haliburton during off-season. Nicholls had 12 power play goals for Los Angeles in 1982-83 as rookie.

1983-84 would see continued improvement in offensive numbers for Bernie Nicholls. He scored 41 and assisted on 54 for 95 points. It was the first of three times he would score more than 40 and the first of seven times he would surpass the 30 goal plateau.

Nicholls recorded two hat tricks in 1983-84 with one a four goal game. On October 20, 1983, the Los Angeles Kings hosted the Edmonton Oilers at the Great Western Forum. The Kings came out on top 7-2 with Bernie scoring four and assisting on two more for six points. All seven goals for the Kings were scored on Andy Moog. Bernie’s second goal of the game was on the power play while the third was a shorthanded marker.

Over his career, Nicholls would reach the 100 point plateau on two occasions. The pinnacle of his career was the 1988-89 season when he scored 70 goals and assisted on 80 for 150 points playing alongside Wayne Gretzky. He remains one of eight players to score 70 or more in a season and just one of five to reach 150 points.

Between 1981-82 and 1998-99, Bernie Nicholls played in 1,127 regular season and 118 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Kings, New York Rangers, Edmonton Oilers, New Jersey Devils, Chicago Blackhawks and San Jose Sharks.
