Details

Lacroix was an offensive dynamo. In two year of major junior with the Peterborough TPT’s (Petes), he had 119 points in 49 games in 1964-65 and 120 over 48 games in 1965-66. In both seasons, he was named the Red Tilson Trophy winner as the league’s most valuable player and in 1965-66 also won the Eddie Powers Trophy as top scorer.

With the Quebec Aces, the scoring continued. His 41 goals and 87 points nearly led the team, despite missing 18 games. He was nine points behind Simon Nolet for the team lead with Nolet playing 70 games. Lacroix tied Howie Glover for sixth in the AHL for goal scoring and tied for third in overall scoring with Jean-Guy Gendron (Nolet was the league leader).

Despite seeing his first NHL action in 1967-68 with the Philadelphia Flyers, Andre was still considered a rookie for the 1968-69 NHL season. His 24 goals and 56 points for the Flyers got him some consideration for the Calder Trophy as rookie of the year, finishing fifth in voting behind Danny Grant, Norm Ferguson, Brad Park and Gerry Desjardins.

In 1969-70, his numbers were consistent with his rookie campaign. That year, he netted his first of three career NHL hat tricks. On October 22, 1969, the Flyers visited Toronto at Maple Leaf Gardens. Philadelphia won the game 4-3 with Lacroix scoring the game winning goal at 7:36 of the third period. Bruce Gamble was in the nets for the Maple Leafs while Bernie Parent turned away 32 of 35 shots for the Flyers.

Between 1967-68 and 1979-80, Andre Lacroix played 325 regular season and 16 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Flyers, Chicago Blackhawks and Hartford Whalers. From 1972-73 to 1978-79, Lacroix made his mark on the hockey world as the most offensive player in WHA history. He is the all-time leader in assists and points for the Rebel League and twice led the league in scoring.
